Several parts of the US already have access to fiber Internet, but Avon us not one of them.
For our city to continue to grow, we need to provide our businesses, hospitals, educational facilities and homes with the tools to succeed.
If we rely of corporations to provide these technological improvements, then we will die of old age. Since I have lived in Avon (past 10 years), CenturyLink nor Time Warner Cable have not offered us faster Internet speeds yet when competition shows up, the telecoms are spurred to act. Take Kansas City. Google came and TWC increased Internet speeds doubled. Competition came to Los Angeles and TWC internet speeds quadrupled.
I'm calling on the city to bring additional competition to Avon residents or follow the examples of Burlington, VT, Cedar Falls, IA & Monticello, MN and build a city-owned fiber optic internet, cable & telephone offering.
Competition is not a dirty word. It's what drives our businesses to better serve us.

We can't get up down Detroit Rd let alone if we would need an Ambulance from the Fire Department. However, this year will be especially bad as the State has the I-90 French Creek overpass tore out until October.
It's time that the Avon widen Detroit to at least eat three lanes with one being a dedicated turning lane to clear the excess traffic.

It's great that these big name companies are coming to Avon (Meijer's, Cabella's etc), as well as the little guys that have built here, too, but the infrastructure of the city can't handle any more traffic without major changes being made first. We desperately need some roads widened to alleviate the traffic at 5:00 pm. Of particular importance are the East-West connectors (namely Chester and Detroit, where feasible). Additionally, if the sidewalk plan that was formulated under the previous mayor was to be able to be finished, I'm certain would help alleviate some traffic congestion. Afterall, how many of the cars/vans on the roads b/w 5:00-7:00pm are parents shuttling their kids to sports practices because it's unsafe for the athlete to ride his/her bike with no sidewalks? Certainly if I am contributing to the congestion for that reason, so are other parents. Roads and sidewalks first, please! It shouldn't take 30-45 minutes to go 2-3 miles at 5:30 pm.

In order to sustain growth, we need a better high speed internet. At present, we have two companies offering us broadband under the illusion of competition.
Offering equal service while under-cutting each others prices is the definition of competition. Time Warner's top speed is 50 MBPS which will set you back $85 a month and Centurylink tops out 10 MBPS and then after the first year price corrects to $64.95 a month.
This is not competition.
In an email to me, Mayor Jensen said that we cannot get a another pay television service in Avon because no one is willing to undergo the cost of building out a competing cable service in Avon.
What we need is a 3rd option. I believe that 3rd option is a fiber network. I found a company that fully funds the cost of the network called SiFi Network. The company has a video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/FAgyYNzLE6E.
I ask all Avon residents to vote for this initiative & to contact the Mayor's officer and express that Avon needs a Fiber network.

The residents of Avon need an optional cable company to compete against Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable).
With its current monopoly on service, Spectrum is free to slowly upgrade our infrastructure or charge what they want for cable & internet service. This virtual monopoly also allows them charge what they want and we have no option but to go along with these requested increases.
The citizens of Avon need another cable company to enter the Avon market to force Spectrum to provide better service at competitive rates. This is what happens in other markets such as Kansas City, MO where Spectrum has to compete for customers against AT&T & Google Fiber.
One such competitor that we could invite would be a Wide Open West (WoW) as they exist in all communities surrounding us (North Ridgeville, Avon Lake, Sheffield Lake, Sheffield Village) and could build off what call the Edge Outs from other existing cities they service.

With all of the new development taking place in Avon, the city should look to acquire additional green space for more parks and recreation. With the rapid rate of growth in the city, now is the time to make this type of purchase before the prices on property grow even higher. The city of Westlake made these type of purchases some years back to preserve their green space as they were growing. Today they have a number of parks available for their residents to enjoy. Let's follow their lead and preserve our own green space in Avon.

The new path that starts at Rt. 83 and ends at the new pool has no way of getting residents to that path other than the busy road. I've seen teenagers walking down Rt 83 in swim gear that did not seem very safe. If there were more sidewalks/bike paths throughout the city that connected residents to their favorite places, we could have a more connected, healthier, and sustainable community. Some of the best rated living places in the nation have this as one of their key selling points on the benefits of living/working in those cities/towns. This would be an EXCELLENT improvement/enhancement to the Avon community!

Roundabouts are a proven way to increase efficiency and safety at intersections. They are used throughout Europe and increasingly in other states. The only thing from preventing us from decreasing our wait times at intersections is our own fear of change. Yes there is a learning curve, but it's worth it once you get through it.

The City of Avon needs to look into an incentive program for watering your lawn when planting seed or getting sod at your residence. If you recently moved to the area and built a house they should offer a 1 time credit to reduce your sewer bill to water your lawn instead of trying to offer a deduct meter. Your sewer usage is based off of your water usage so when you water your lawn more than normal, the cost will raise. Many other communities recognize this and offer incentive. This would be a great idea that Avon can follow to help our community and encourage residents to water their lawns to start root growth.

That would offer a substantial amount of clean energy and would honor Avon as one of the first northeast Ohio towns to construct its own turbine(s). Avon would lead the way toward greener practices. We CAN achieve this. Another idea is to have solar panels installed on all public buildings. This too will offer cheap, clean energy to power our town. This is a brief broaching of the ideas but of course I can come up with research to support my idea if the idea gains interest.

I have watched numerous cars turning left and going into the south bound turning lane there.
